Prague
Emperor Rudolf II moved the Habsburg capital to Prague in 1583 and brought leading alchemists such as Edward Kelley and John Dee to his court in search of the philosopher's stone. Legend credits Rabbi Judah Loew (the Maharal) with shaping a clay golem to protect the Jewish ghetto; its remains are said to lie in the closed attic of the Old New Synagogue.
